Abstract

1396371 Electric cable SIEMENS AG 3 Aug 1972 [3 Aug 1971 7 July 1972] 36381/72 Heading H1A [Also in Division C3] Insulated electrical conductors have at least part of the insulation formed from compositions comprising an olefin polymer having incorporated therein not more than 2% by weight of the olefin polymer of a di-(t.-aminoaryl)-alkane which consists of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen atoms and contains no unsaturated aliphatic carbon-to-carbon bonds, whereby the electric strength of the insulation is increased. The compositions may also contain phenolic antioxidants and high boiling aromatic oils, e.g. dibenzyl toluene isomers and mineral oil fractions. The latter may contain at least 1 weight per cent of sulphur, e.g. as thiophene derivatives. An example describes a single core, high voltage cable comprising stranded copper wires 1, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer conductor smoothing layer 2, polyethylene insulating layer 3 containing N,N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-tetramethyl di-(aminophenyl) - methane and 4,4<SP>1</SP> - thiobis - (3- methyl - 6 - t. - butylphenol), ethylene / vinyl acetate copolymer field limiting medium 4, copper wire screen 5, copper strip counter-helix 6 and polyvinyl chloride protective sheath 7.
