Abstract

1396102 Stay W G WEEKS and M A TAYLOR 26 April 1972 [6 March 1972] 10411/72 Heading E2F A stay comprises slidably mounted inner and outer tubes 52, 50 having holes 56, 54 Which can receive the head 94 of a stay-engageable pin 90 when brought into alignment by pressing the exposed end 98 of the inner tube but which are normally 'biassed by spring 68 out of alignment to retain the head, a leaf spring 82, fixed to the outer tube receiving a pin 80, fixed to the inner tube, in a channel 86 to hold the tubes in the aligned position until released by pressing stud 88 on the pin. The tubes may be locked in the non-aligned position by a pin 72 which is screwed down to engage in holes 74, 76. A ball end 60 on a mounting bracket 64 provides a universal connection for the end of tube 50 and a further pin 92 is provided to retain the stay in the fully closed position. The holes 56 in the inner tube are as shown in Fig 2 with a portion of reduced size to engage the locking pin in the unaligned position of the holes. In the fully closed position shown in Fig 1, pin 90 engages hole 56', this has no reduced portion and helps to reduce the stress of any inaccurate mounting.
