Abstract
1396012 Plastics-coated glass containers DART INDUSTRIES INC 12 July 1972 [13 July 1971 7 March 1972 18 April 1972] 32642/ 72 Heading B2E A shatter resistant container comprises an inner glass envelope 0.030 to 0.012 thick and an outer thermoplastic outer envelope having a mean thickness of 0.004 to 0.018 ins, the exterior of the outer envelope being configured with modules having a maximum elevation above the mean thickness of 6 to 60%. The thermoplastics envelope may be a flexible e.g. polymers of butadiene, acrylates, ethylene, propylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, cellulose acetate, cellulose butyrate or cellulosic propionate. In addition, fluoroplastics, polymethylpentenes, polyamides, phenoxy resin, polycarbonates, polyphenylene oxides or polysulphone may be used. A.B.S. copolymers are preferred. The coating may be applied as a powder, optionally by electrostatic spraying, onto the hot outer surface of the container, or by dipping the container into a fluidised bed of powder plastics, or by dipping the container while hot into a molten bath of plastics material or into a solution or dispersion of the material. The size and quantity of the modules is specified as is the light trans mittance of coated containers.
