Abstract
1395910 Measuring dimensions photoelectrically T I (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd 20 Sept 1972 [24 June 1971] 29614/71 Heading G1A In an apparatus for measuring a dimension of an object, e.g. the diameter of a rod 17, in which two substantially mutually parallel beams 8, 9 are produced from a single laser 2, the beams are moved relative to the object and the output from the photo-cell arrangement 15, 16, which output indicates the relative position of the object and the beams, thereby gives an indication of the object dimension. The beam separation is such that there is a range of positions in which the object intersects part of both beams. Relative movement is effected either by rotating a glass block 3 or by passing a plurality of objects in sequence through the beams. The detector circuitry Fig. 13, (not shown) gives an indication if the rod diameter is outside a pre-set range of values. The two beams may be derived by doubling a laser beam back on itself, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown).
