Abstract
1395860 Cooling particulate material FULLER CO 21 Nov 1973 [30 Jan 1973] 53912/73 Heading F4B A method of cooling hot particulate material comprises the steps of passing a cooling gas through the material in a stage 6, cooling said material by sprays 30 in a stage 8 in which passage of gas is substantially prevented and passing a cooling gas through said material in a stage 10. As disclosed, cement clinker from a rotary furnace 1 falls on to a reciprocating grate conveyer 12 in stage 6 supplied with cooling air from plenum chambers 73 and 74, partially cooled material passing through an opening 25 to a breaker 20 with a grizzly 22 before collecting at 35 in stage 8. The material then passes through opening 37 into a reciproeating grate conveyer 50 at the bottom of the chambers 73 and 74 and supplied by fans 67, 68 through plenum chambers 63, 64, said conveyer 50 discharging through an opening 60 having a temperature sensor 80 which controls a valve 34 supplying the sprays 30. The material in openings 25, 37 and 60 provides an air seal and the air passing successively through the grates 50 and 12 is utilized as combustion air in the furnace 1. Steam from stage 8 escapes through a condenser 42 and stack 44. In a modification (Fig. 2) valves (90 and 61) are provided in the openings 37 and 60 and a separate plenum chamber (97) with its own fan (95) is provided under the first part of the grate 12 so that it is supplied with cool air.
