Abstract
1395743 Frequency changers: control of A.C. motors INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 18 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 23437/72 Headings H2F and H2J A circuit for reducing the frequency of a A.C. supply comprises for the or each phase of the output a first bridge of two diodes D1, D2 and two controlled rectifiers T1, T2 for feeding a first portion UX of a load and a further bridge comprising the said diodes D1, D2 and two further controlled rectifiers T3, T4 for feeding a further portion U<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>1</SP> of the load. The controlled rectifiers are triggered by means which determine the number of half cycles (or part half cycles) of similar polarity to feed the load portions. The load portions UX &c. may be windings of a squirrel-cage motor. In Fig. 10 (not shown) four pairs of thyristors are used in conjunction with a common pair of diodes D1, D2 so as to feed four load portions with a twophase supply derived by reducing the frequency of the single phase input. Fig. 12 (not shown) depicts a block diagram of a control system in which an adjustable frequency generator oprates at twice the required frequency and feeds flip-flops and gates so as to provide appropriate triggering pulses for the respective thyristors. The thyristors may be phase-controlled (Fig. 13, not shown) so that the effective output is proportional to frequency. The motor may be stopped by switching off the controlling frequency generator or reversed by reversal of phase sequence.
