Abstract
1395308 Multi-cylinder double acting stirling cycle engines UNITED STIRLING (SWEDEN) AB & CO KB 5 Sept 1973 41647/73 Heading F1S In a multi-cylinder double acting Stirling cycle engine power control system of the kind in which engine part load is established by connecting the low temperature working space 5 of each cylinder 1 with a variable effective volume dead volume space obtainable by selective inter-connection or isolation of dead volume chambers 17, 31, 32, 33, 34 a valve 47 is inserted in a conduit 48 connecting a conduit 9 receiving working gas of maximum pressure from the low temperature working space of each cylinder with a conduit receiving 11 working gas of minimum pressure from the low temperature working space of each cylinder the valve being governed towards an open position by a speed governor 50 in the event of the actual engine speed exceeding a desired engine speed. The speed governor may be connected to an operator controlled accelerator device 46 which is also operable to vary the size of the effective dead volume space. The valve 47 may be connected in series with a further valve 54 which is closed as soon as the first dead volume chamber is selectively isolated.
