Abstract

1395264 Fuel composition TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 Oct 1973 [8 Nov 1972] 48772/73 Addition to 1368729 Heading C5G A fuel oil composition comprises (A) a major amount of a vacuum gas oil or mixture of vacuum gas oils, boiling point between 450‹ and 1050‹ F., wax content between 0À5 and 20 wt. per cent, pour point of, e.g. between 60‹ and 100‹ F. and API gravity of, e.g. between 20 and 35 degrees, (B) between 1 and 20 wt. per cent of an asphaltene petroleum residium asphaltene content between 4 and 15 wt. per cent, API gravity between 5 and 20 degrees and a carbon residue between 5 and 25 wt. per cent and (C) between 0À002 and 3 wt. per cent of a gas oil soluble interpolymeric poly-(n-alkylacrylate) having a molecular weight between 3000 and 10,000 whose n-alkyl groups have at least 18 carbon atoms, at least 70 wt. per cent of these alkyl groups having from 20-24 carbon atoms these C 20 -C 24 alkyl groups consisting of between 2 and 65 wt. per cent C 20 alkyl, between 18 and 65 wt. per cent C 22 alkyl and between 8 and 35 wt. per cent alkyl. In a method of making the composition by mixing A, B and C, the poly- (n-alkylacrylate) is incorporated at a temperature above the solution point of the wax in the oil. The poly-(n-alkylacrylate) may be added as a concentrate solution in toluene, xylene, light lube oil or the vacuum gas oil itself.
