Abstract

1394760 Riveting E KUCH 14 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972 26 July 1972] 7366/73 Heading B3U A tool for setting tubular rivets comprises a threaded mandrel 4 mounted in a guide sleeve 3 carrying an anvil 9, a device 7 for releasably engaging the mandrel 4 to effect rotation thereof and a drive element 5 which is connected by articulated levers 6 to a pair of lever arms 1 so that when the latter are compressed the drive element 5 is moved relative to the guide sleeve 3 to drive the mandrel 4 inwardly of the anvil 9 so as to set a rivet which has been screwed on to the mandrel 4. The two lever arms 1 are articulated to a pair of transverse members 2 receiving the guide sleeve 3 for the threaded mandrel 4 and to the levers 6 which are in turn articulated to the drive element 5. An enlarged end 14 of the mandrel 4 co-operates with a shoulder 15 in the drive element 5 so that when the lever arms 1 are compressed the mandrel 4 is retracted by the drive element 5 moving over the guide sleeve 3 to set the rivet. The mandrel rotating device 7, which enables the mandrel 4 to be screwed into and out of the rivet is releasably secured to the drive element 5 by a nut 20 and which includes a projection 17 for engaging a notch 18 in the mandrel 4. The device 7 may be provided with a battery drive. The stroke of the lever arms 1 is controlled by the abutment of a sleeve 10, screwed in the drive element 5, with the transverse members 2. The anvil 9 of the tool is in screw threaded engagement with the guide sleeve 3 to enable the effective length of the mandrel 4 to be adjusted.
