1394404 Drawing J S STAROSTIN V I PLOKHOV V K EROKHOV V P IVANOV V N KROTKOV A V ANISIMOV R N AJUPOV and M F GOLOVINOV 24 Jan 1973 3674/73 Heading B3P [Also in Division F2] A pipe 9 having internal helical fins 10 is made by drawing and rotating a pipe blank 1 having straight, longitudinal fins 2 through a drawing die 3 which alters the cross-sectional shape of the blank 1 to prevent it slipping relative to the die 3 and then further drawing the blank 1 without rotation to produce the desired cross-sectional shape. A circular pipe blank 1 is drawn through the die 3, which is rotated via a worm gear 4, to produce an oval pipe 5 which is twisted before passing through a fixed second die 8 for drawing the pipe 5 back to a circular shape. The finished pipe 9 may have a fin thickness of not less than 1 mm. The fins may be twisted anticlockwise and clockwise on alternate sections of the pipe.
