Abstract

1394263 Threading false twist crimping machines BARMAG BARMER MACHINENFABRIK AG 9 Nov 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 51691/72 Heading DIF In a method of drawing and false-twist crimping thermoplastic filaments in which undrawn thermoplastic filaments are continuously subjected to drawing and false-twist crimping and which heating is by means of a contactheater plate 2, during threading-up of the filament 1, the filament is diverted from the path it follows during normal operation between delivery rollers 5 upstream of the heater 2 and take-off rollers 12 downstream of the heater, so as not to make contact with the heater until a draw as been applied to the travelling filament, the length of the filament path between the rollers 5 and 12 remaining substantially constant, the working rotational speed of the false-twist spindle 11 not being adjusted to its functional level until after the filament has been brought into contact with the heater 2. In a first embodiment of apparatus for carrying out the above method, the delivery rollers 5 are moved along a path 7 between two end positions 8 and 9 in which the filament 1 does and does not make contact, respectively, with the heater plate 2. The path 7 is such that the length of the filament path between the delivery rollers 5 and the take-off roller 12 does not change. The delivery rollers 5 and take-off rollers 12 are connected via a gear transmission 27 to produce the desired draw ratio in the filament. In a further embodiment, in which the filament passes a plurality of times across the heater surface via direction changing guides, said guides are displaceable towards and away from the heater surface to bring the filament into positions in which it does and does not make contact with said surface.
