1394071 Photographic silver halide dye diffusion transfer material EASTMAN KODAK CO 25 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24716/72 Heading G2C A dye image-receiving element comprises a support bearing, in order (a) a developing agent scavenger layer comprising a bis (vinylsulphonylalkyl) compound, which may be substituted, in a polymeric binder and (b) a dye image-receiving layer. A timing layer may be present between the scavenger layer and the dye image-receiving layer. The element may contain a pH-lowering material e.g. in the scavenger layer. A photographic assemblage comprises (i) a photo-sensitive element comprising a support bearing at least one photo-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, each silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a non-diffusible coupler capable of reacting with oxidized primary amino colour developing agent to produce a diffusible dye, (ii) a dye image-receiving layer and (iii) a rupturable container containing an alkaline processing composition which when a compressive force is applied thereto discharges its contents within the assemblage into contact with the emulsion layer; the assemblage containing an aromatic primary amino colour developing agent and a developing agent scavenger layer comprising a bis (vinylsulphonylalkyl) compound, which may be substituted, in an amount sufficient to react with unused colour developing agent, the reaction products being colourless, and in which (1) the dye image-receiving layer is located either in the photo-sensitive element between the support and the lowermost (i.e. nearest the support) silver halide emulsion layer, with the scavenger being located in the photo-sensitive element between the dye image-receiving layer and the lowermost silver halide emulsion layer, or (2) the dye imagereceiving layer is coated on a separate support and adapted to be superposed on the photo-sensitive element after exposure thereof with the scavenger layer being located between the dye image-receiving layer and the support therefor. The silver halide emulsions may be direct-positive. The bis (vinylsulphonylalkyl) compound may have the formula: - where R is H or optionally substituted alkyl; m is 1 to 4; A is -O-, RN = or R 2 N<SP>#</SP> = ÀX<SP>#</SP>, where X<SP>#</SP> is an anion, or is, in formula (I), 1,4-piperazine-diyl; t is 1 or 2; n is 2 to 6; and Z is a polyvalent radical of n valences, e.g. bis (vinylsulphonylmethyl) ether or 1, 2-bis (vinylsulphonylethoxy) ethane. The yellowish-brown stain which appears in dye imagereceiving layers and is caused by aerial oxidation of unused colour developer present in the layer is reduced.
