1393611 Shaving device KKK KROYER 6 June 1973 [8 June 1972] 26749/72 Heading B4B A shaving device comprises a plate having a plurality of projections 1, 2, Fig. 3, which, at their free ends, are undercut so as to form cutting edges. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a profiled metal layer 1 is attached to a layer 2 of plastics material which is attached to a second layer 3 of plastics material. The surface of the metal layer is ground thereby removing leaving exposed portions of the first plastics layer. The device is then subjected to an etching process which dissolves the exposed portions of the first plastics layer but not the second layer as shown in Fig. 3. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, a metal plate 4 having a plurality of projections 5 is secured to a plastics layer 9, the interior spaces defined by the projections being filled with a plastics material 7 which can be removed by dissolution by means of a suitable solvent after grinding the tops of the projections away; the layer 9 is resistant to attack by the solvent. The profile on the metal plate may be formed by pressing the latter against a suitably shaped die; the die may be formed by closely packed steel balls thereby forming rounded projections the tops of which being ground away, Fig. 5 (not shown). In a further method of construction, a chromium layer is deposited in discrete areas on a steel plate and the plate then heated so as to diffuse the chromium into the steel. The plate is then etched with acid, e.g. nitric, which dissolves away the steel adjacent the chromium areas thereby leaving sharp under-cut edges of the chromium; the chromium may then be polished.
