Abstract
1393432 Coaxial cables DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 19 Jan 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9305/72 Heading H1A [Also in Division H2] For reducing radio-frequency interference, a coaxial cable having an inner screen 3, an interscreen dielectric 4a and an outer screen 2, has a resistive impedance connected between the screens at each end, each impedance being equal to the characteristic impedance of the transmission line formed by the screens 2, 3 and the inter-screen dielectric 4a. The resistive impedances may be constituted by discrete resistors, or by resistive rings 10<SP>1</SP> inserted between the screens where a part of the dielectric 4a has been removed, and secured by clamps 20. The cable may be provided with a connector having rings 21, 23 for interconnecting and clamping the screens 2, 3, and a threaded ferrule 24 having a flange 25 for abutting the flanged ring 23 when the connector is coupled to a coaxial socket. The arrangement is said to reduce standing waves that might otherwise be set up between two screens connected together and earthed.
