Abstract
1393405 Sintered dispersion strengthened Ni HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd 21 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 29092/72 Heading C7D Dispersion strengthened Ni is made by sintering a powder mixture containing by weight _ 0À1-0À2%C, 0À07-0À1%Mg, a refractory oxide e.g. 0À01-0À06%Al 2 O 3 and the balance Ni at a temperature of at least 1175C and then hot working the compact. The refractory oxide is reduced to metal by the Mg vapour during sintering and MgO is formed in the sintered body. The Ni powder is preferably 4-7 microns, the C powder is Ni coated and < 43 microns # the Mg may be added as Mg or as a Ni-10/20% Mg alloy. The refractory oxide e.g. Al 2 O 3 or TiO 2 has a maximum particle size of 0À1 microns and preferably 0À01-0À03 microns. The mixture may be hydrostatically pressed to a minimum 65% density and after sintering in hydrogen is hot rolled or hot forged.
