1393403 Fertilizers from impure sulphuric acid; ammonium sulphate KEMIRA OY 19 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28654/72 Headings C1B and C1A The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a fertilizer in which impure sulphuric acid is treated with an aqueous solution containing ammonia and optionally ammonium or other salts (e.g. ammonium nitrate) and/or urea, the impure sulphuric acid having been obtained from a manufacturing process for the production of sulphuric acid comprising the sequential steps of: (1) roasting sulphide ores to produce sulphur dioxide, (2) purifying the sulphur dioxide by passing the gas through gas scrubbers containing a scrubbing liquid, (3) oxidizing the purified sulphur dioxide to sulphur trioxide, and (4) dissolving the sulphur trioxide in water to produce sulphuric acid, by removal of the scrubbing liquid containing impure sulphuric acid from the gas scrubbers. The fertilizer solution obtained may be concentrated by evaporation and other fertilizer ingredients, such as monoammonium phosphate and potassium salts, slurried therein.
