Abstract

1392621 Tracheotomy appliances SANDOZ Ltd 7 June 1972 [11 June 1971] 26485/72 Heading A5R A tracheotomy mask comprises a mask body 1, a gas inlet 10, and mounting means (20) Fig. 4 (not shown), for mounting the gas inlet on the mask body to form a ball-andsocket joint allowing pivotal movement of the gas inlet relative to the mounting means in a plurality of planes. The mounting means comprises two locating rings 20a, 20b which are locked together by the co-operation of respective hook members and recesses. Annular extensions 23a, 23b of the rings define a groove (25), see Fig. 2 (not shown), which accommodates the periphery of a gas inlet receiving aperture 2 of the body 1. The gas inlet 10 has a spherical portion 11 and the inner surfaces of the two rings when fitted together are part spherical and co-operate therewith. The gas inlet has an inlet tubing adaptor 13 and, at right angles thereto, an exhalation outlet 14. The mask body is made from soft flexible plastics, the gas inlet from rigid plastics such as polystyrene, and the mounting means from rigid self-lubricating plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, or nylon. The mask body has a pair of side arms 4 having eyed tabs (3) to which are connected straps for connecting the mask to a patient, see Fig. 4 (not shown).
