Abstract

1392343 Radio direction finding LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GmbH 22 March 1972 [23 March 1971] 13483/72 Heading H4D To enable the signals from a plurality of transmitters possibly operating at different frequencies and with different modulation characteristics, to be separated out whereby the direction in azimuth and/or elevation of each of the transmitters may be determined, the signals are received by several broad-band receivers and the resultant sum signal there sampled at close intervals-e.g. at 2 MHz-over a period of time, to give a succession of amplitude values which, after digitizing, can be subjected to an orthogonal transformation whereby the frequency spectrum of the sum signal is produced in the form of a series of discrete components. By analyzing the spectrum, the components corresponding to the respective signals from the transmitters can be determined, and by comparing corresponding frequency components from the several receivers in amplitude and/or phase the directions of the various transmitters can be determined. Suitable orthogonal transformations are Fourier or Fast Fourier transforms, or a Matched Filter action.
