Abstract

1392097 Intercell connectors for lead-acid batteries CLYDE BATTERIES PTY Ltd and CENTURY STORAGE BATTERY CO Ltd 10 Aug 1972 37427/72 Headings B3R R2K R2F R6 and R14 Plates of like polarity in battery cells are electrically connected by connectors 3, 4 and plates in adjacent cells are connected by means of lugs 5, 6 on connectors 3, 4 arranged to lie adjacent each other and separated by intercell partition 7, at least one lug having a spigot 9, Fig. 16, fitting into hole 8 through the partition and at least one lug having a receptacle such as 10 so positioned as to accomodate the flash resulting from fusing the lugs together. As shown there is an annular shoulder 14 round the base of the spigot and this may alternatively or additionally be provided around the entry to receptacle 10. This receptacle may alternatively be in the spigot and a number of combinations of these alternative arrangements is disclosed, Figs. 2 to 15, 17, (not shown). Fusion is brought about by pressing the lugs together while passing electric current, the adjacent surfaces of the lugs further being brought into sealing engagement with the partition wall. In another embodiment a web (25) separates the fusion surface from the receptacle (Fig. 17). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1000611.
