Abstract
1391740 Hollow walled trays DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP 12 Jan 1973 [26 May 1972] 1783/73 Heading B8P In a hollow walled tray (Figs. 2 and 12) the adjacent walls, such as 28, 22, Fig. 3 (128, 122, Fig. 13) are locked together at each corner of the tray by a shoulder 100<SP>1</SP> (200<SP>1</SP>) of an inner wall element 82<SP>1</SP> (172<SP>1</SP>) of the hollow wall 28, (128) inserted into the hollow wall 22, (122), a primary locking tab 42, (142) extending inwardly from a top wall element 38, (138) of the hollow wall 22, (122) and inserted beneath the top wall element 80<SP>1</SP> (180<SP>1</SP>) of the hollow wall 28, (128), and a downwardly folded (Figs. 5 and 7) flap 81<SP>1</SP>, (1811) hinged to a top wall element 80<SP>1</SP> (180<SP>1</SP>) and having a lip 85<SP>1</SP> (185<SP>1</SP>) engaged under an outwardly extending secondary locking tab 46, (146) on the top wall element 38, (138). The side edges 32, 34 (162, 164) of outer wall elements 30, (158) of the hollow walls 22 (122) converge upwardly and each define one side of a triangular opening in which the associated hinged flap 81<SP>1</SP>, 81 (181<SP>1</SP>, 181) is inverted and held by engagement of an ear 89<SP>1</SP>, 89, (189<SP>1</SP>, 189) on the hinged flap behind the outer wall element 30 (158). In a tray erected from the blank of Fig. 1, first 72, 72<SP>1</SP>, 30, 30<SP>1</SP>, second 80, 80<SP>1</SP>, 38, 38<SP>1</SP>, third 82, 82<SP>1</SP>, 58, 581 and fourth 86, 86<SP>1</SP>, 68, 68<SP>1</SP> wall elements constitute outer, top, inner and lower wall elements respectively. The lower wall elements 68, 86<SP>1</SP> may be folded outwardly as shown in Fig. 3 or may be folded inwardly (Figs. 10, 10A) and adhered to the bottom wall 12 of the tray. In a tray erected from an alternative blank (Fig. 11), the first (172, 172<SP>1</SP>, 130, 130<SP>1</SP>), second (180, 180<SP>1</SP>, 138, 138<SP>1</SP>), third 182, 182<SP>1</SP>, 158, 158<SP>1</SP>) and third (186, 186<SP>1</SP>, 168, 168<SP>1</SP>) wall elements constitute inner, top, outer and lower wall elements respectively. In this embodiment the lower wall elements are adhered to the undersurface of the tray bottom wall (112).
