Abstract

1391084 Automatic exchange systems SIEMENS AG 4 Aug 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 36466/72 Heading H4K A telecommunication system includes a hierarchical arrangement of program controlled computers for performing auxiliary functions for a plurality of computer controlled exchanges. The figure shows a number of computer controlled exchanges VST 1 to VST x and VST which serve telephone and possibly telegraph subscribers; a lesser number of program controlled computers FBR, FBR 1 to FBR z which are each common to a plurality of exchanges and perform operational processes which relate to telecommunication exchange but do not involve the establishment of connections directly, e.g. maintenance; program modification and account handling; and a yet smaller number of program controlled computers FAR 1 and FAR or RZ 1 and RZ which are each common to a plurality of said computers FBR... and perform other operation processes such as the supply of directory or other information and calculating in connection with subscriber invoices, employees wages &c. A central computer FR may be connected when required to the computers FBR ... to perform overall control such as the re-routing of trunk calls in accordance with traffic loads and the compiling of statistics &c. The computers FAR 1 and FAR and RZ 1 and RZ are associated in pairs each of which can take over the functions of the other if one proves defective. The computer FR performs no real time operations and need not be duplicated. All other computers including the exchange controls are duplicated as shown by being double circled. The computers FBR ... may each be divided into two, one performing real time operations and the other performing administrative functions in which case the administrative computers need not be duplicated. In the figure solid line connections are permanent tie lines seizable in the direction of the arrows. Dotted line connections are set up when required. The computers may have data display input and output terminals.
