Abstract

1390980 Artificial legs J E HANGER & CO Ltd 5 Sept 1973 [6 Sept 1972] 41383/72 Heading A5R A cosmetic covering for an artificial leg shin member, comprises two parts 1, 2 an upper part 1 of moulded compliant plastics material shaped on the interior so as to fit over the member, and a lower part of a thin generally tubular laminated shell, the exterior of the upper part being tapered over a given length L at its lower end and the interior of the lower part being tapered over a given length L+X at a lesser angle so as to facilitate force-fitting of the lower part over the compliant upper part, it being possible to shorten the total length of said shin member by removing material from the upper end of the corner part before forcefitting. The lower part may carry graduations to indicate the level of cutting required for a given total skin length. The interior of the top of the upper part of the cosmetic covering is reinforced with harder material, a standard pre-shaped glass laminate about which the compliant plastics is moulded, in order to provide abutment surfaces for complementary metal surfaces of a covered skin member.
