Abstract

1390780 Anchors C A McDOWALL 4 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 57764/72 Heading B7S An anchor 1 for mooring a marine vessel comprises a shank 3 for embedding vertically in the bed 5 of a body of water 7 and for attachment of a riser cable or rope 21 thereabout, first and second screw members 9, 15 fixed to the shank 3 at longitudinally spaced positions, the second screw member having a greater depth of thread than the first, and a disc 17 fixed to the normally upper end of the shank 3 and provided with apertures 19 whereby it may be engaged by a key to apply torque to the shank 3 to enable the screw members 9, 15 to draw the anchor into the bed 5. The disc 17 may include a pad of resilient material to avoid damaging the hull of a vessel settling thereon. As an alternative to the attachment shown, the shank 3 may include an eye to which the riser 21 may be secured. The anchor is used to provide a mooring in shallow saltings, the free end of the riser being secured to a buoy (not shown), which may be picked-up by a vessel using the mooring.
