Abstract

1389063 Strip fastener AMERICAN VELCRO INC 2 March 1972 [15 March 1971] 9674/72 Heading D1K [Also in Division E2] A fastening device comprises: a first member, formed from moulded plastics of upstanding elements 10, extending from a flexible base 32, each having a tapered stem 12, formed by five flat surfaces 11, 13, 30, and a head 14 having at least two opposite resiliently flexible radial extensions 16 sloping away from the end of the stem 12 towards the base 32; and a second member 52 with either one surface formed from an open cell foamed plastics in which membranes have been removed, such as a reticulated urethane foam to provide a partial skeletal structure of interconnected closed strands at the surface, Fig. 8 (not shown), or alternatively with a surface of elements in loop form, Fig. 8 (not shown). The upstanding elements 10 may have a sharp pointed apex 18 at the top to improve penetration and have concave recesses 20 on each side to improve the flexibility of the extensions 16, or the apex may be missing leaving a single concave recess (36), Fig. 5 (not shown).
