Abstract
1388989 Anti-skid control systems GENERAL MOTORS CORP 4 Oct 1973 [1 Nov 1972] 46315/73 Heading F2F In an anti-lock control system for at least one braked vehicle wheel, a differentiated wheel rotational speed electrical signal is compared with a deceleration reference signal continuously variable as a function of wheel speed in a uniform manner therewith over a predetermined range, the difference therebetween being integrated and compared with a threshold value to form a control signal to a modulator. The rotational velocity of one or more braked wheels is sensed by a wheel or transmission mounted tachogenerator which supplies a sinusoidal electrical signal along lines 14, 16 through resistors to an amplifier 62 which acts on differential input currents. A feedback resistor 66 and a capacitor 68 provide an output of similar frequency in the form of a square wave. An amplifier 72 with a feedback capacitor 74 and a resistor 78 converts the frequency signal to a voltage output which passes through a diode 76 whose forward breakdown voltage causes signals representing 3 m.p.h. or less to be inhibited; also signal ripples are inhibited. This signal is differentiated by a capacitor 84 and compared at 30 with a signal formed of a constant value, as determined by a positive potential-coupled resistor 86, and a wheel speed dependent value, as determined by the resistor 88. The compared signal is integrated by a capacitor-coupled amplifier 32 and compared with threshold values by circuitry 36. Here, an amplifier 94 receives the signal as one input and incorporates a feedback resistor 98; a negative input is resistor-coupled to a transistor 104 which is conductive during steady-state operation to provide a reference value at this input. If the integrated signal (velocity error signal) exceeds an equivalent of 2¢ m.p.h. the amplifier switches to provide an output through a resistor 114 to an output driver 40 comprising coupled transistors 116, 118 which are rendered conductive to energize a solenoid 44<SP>1</SP> of a valve, actuating the modulator which is responsive to air pressure and vacuum, the latter being controlled by the valve. Due to hysteresis in the resistor 98 the output is retained until the velocity error signal drops below an equivalent to 1 m.p.h. Then the transistor 104 is cut-off for 130 milliseconds to cause additional current flow to the reference input of the amplifier 94 to inhibit possible noise signals.
