Abstract

1388389 Mouthpieces for brass instruments N J SANDERS 26 May 1972 [4 June 1971] 19003/71 Heading G4J A mouthpiece for a trumpet or French horn has a specially shaped rim 3 giving improved freedom for the player's lips to vibrate. A portion 6 which is straight in cross-section (Fig. 2B), is provided between the convex portion 7 which touches the lips and the convex portion 9 leading to the end 10 of the bore 4. The portion 7 is thus nearer to the outer edge 8 than to the end 10 of the bore, whereas in a conventional mouthpiece (Fig. 2C, not shown), it is equidistant from both.
