Abstract
1388183 Apparatus for cleaning root crops UKRAINSKY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT SELSKOKHOZYAISTVENNOGO MASHINOSTROENIA 22 Feb 1972 8188/72 Heading B2H A root cleaner comprises at least two drums 3 and 4 rotatable in the same direction and having on their surfaces helically arranged clustered webs 7, the helices of two adjacent web clusters 8 and 9 being directed toward one another, a roll 5 located above the level of the drums, and a shield 6 having a port 11 through which the roots 14 can pass. The roll 5 also may be provided with helical webs 10. In operation the roots are fed onto the surfaces of the rotating drums and are caused to move in an axial direction along the drums by the web 7. When they reach the portion of the drums between the adjacent web clusters 8 and 9 they move in a radial direction over the drums and roll 5 and out through the port 11. Earth and vegetable impurities pass through the gaps between the drums and between the roll and the drum 4.
