Abstract

1387467 Extruding RHEINSTAHL AG 19 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 33760/72 Heading B3P [Also in Division B5] In a screw extruder wherein the screw 1 is joined to a drive shaft 11 of a gear 12, a thrust roller bearing 13 is mounted between a thrust piece 6 fixed on the drive shaft 11 and an intermediate plate 16 connected to the housing of the gear 12 and to a casing of the extruder or a feed housing 3 by means of bolts 17, 18 whereby the axial force of the screw is conveyed back to the casing 2 or feed housing 3 via the thrust piece 6, the bearing 13 and the intermediate plate 16. In one embodiment, the screw 1 is connected by a splined connection 5 to the thrust piece 6 which is in turn connected by a splined connection 9 and bolts 10 to the drive shaft 11 of the gear 12. The bearing 13 is maintained under tension by spring loaded pins (25) (Fig. 2, not shown) mounted in the intermediate plate 16. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the screw 1 is directly connected by a splined connection with the drive shaft 11 on to which the thrust piece 6 is screwed.
