Abstract
1387374 Storing liquefied gases SOC EUROPEENE DE PROPULSION 6 Feb 1973 [19 April 1972] 5731/73 Heading F4P [Also in Division E1] Liquefied gas, e.g. CO 2 , is stored in an enclosure 9 mounted on a submarine reservoir 1 during submerging (see Division E1), the enclosure 9 comprising a cylindrical, steel tank with an insulating coating 10, e.g. of polyurethane foam, covered with a layer of polyester. The CO 2 is stored at 20 bars and -20C., a refrigerating plant 11, 12 being provided. Enclosure 9 is located in a casing 8 secured by explosive bolts 6 to the reservoir 1. Pipes with valves 19 and explosive cutters 22 supply the liquefied gas to nozzles 20. Safety valves 16 and pressure-rupturable discs 17 are connected to tank 9 by an electric three-way valve 15. Filling and balancing valves 13, 14, and pressure and level sensors 24, 23 are provided. The pressure in casing 8 is controlled by a gas injector 29 and a purge line 30. When emptied of liquefied CO 2 , tank 9 is filled with seawater and vented by pyrotechnic valves 31, 32 and float valve 33.
