Abstract
1387098 Thermonuclear fusion apparatus EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY 25 May 1973 [29 May 1972] 25121/73 Heading G6P Thermonuclear fusion apparatus (Fig. 1) comprises a reaction chamber 1 having axiallyopposed plasma inlet and outlet 2, 3 each surrounded by three inter connected windings 2a, 2b, 2c and 3a, 3b, 3c spaced symmetrically in the circumferential direction. The inlet windings create a driving field to impart kinetic and thermal energy to the inlet d-t plasma which, having undergone fusion reactions within the chamber 1 possesses surplus energy which is collected by the outlet windings. Within each set the windings may be delta- or star-connected and feedback from the outlet to inlet windings is achieved by interconnecting them in parallel or series. In order to impart minimal rotational energy to the ingoing plasma, the inlet windings may be supplemented by a further set 12a, 12b, 12c (Fig. 4) of opposite hand to the first set 11a, 11b, 11c. A similar arrangement at the plasma outlet recovers rotational energy from the emergent plasma.
