Abstract

1386910 Weapon DIEHL 23 Aug 1973 [19 Sept 1972] 39909/73 Heading F3C A weapon has a barrel which is pivotally mounted and has a tiltable firing chamber which is positioned so that its tilt axis coincides with the pivotal axis of the barrel, the firing chamber being tiltable to facilitate loading with ammunition and being tiltable independently of the elevation angle of the barrel and always into the same loading position. In an embodiment a barrel 6, Fig. 1, of a gun is fastened in a casing 7 slidably mounted in a cradle 3 which, having trunnions 4, 5, Fig. 4, is pivotally-supported by a superstructure 2, Fig. 1, of an armoured vehicle 1. The casing 7 is coupled, via recuperator mechanism 8 and a recoil mechanism 9, to the cradle 3. A firing chamber 11 is mounted so as to be tiltable about the axis of the trunnions 4, 5 which axis has no vertical displacement. A feeder 12 is provided for rounds 13. Round 14 is shown in the loading position and additional rounds 15 are stored in the superstructure 2. Tubular sealing rings 21, 22, Figs. 3 and 4, are attached to the firing chamber 11. In another embodiment the weapon is used as a mortar as shown in Fig. 8, a base piece 17 being provided and the mortar being pivotably mounted about a shaft 27 in a turntable 29. The latter has an arm 36 which is pivotally connected to a housing 37 of a barrel support 39. The support 39 is connected at 38 to the casing 7 and, having a rack (not shown), is axially movable by a gear 41 which is rotated by a hand wheel 40. Loading is effected via the firing chamber 11, a toggle 42 being provided to facilitate tilting and for the actuation of locking members 43, 44 for the placing of pressure on sealing rings 21, 22 by bolts 23, 24.
