Abstract

1386647 Comminuting apparatus FOSTER WHEELER CORP 31 Oct 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 50075/72 Heading B2A [Also in Division F2] A shut-off valve for a duct 10 feeding hot air to a coal pulverizer has a damper 12 which is pivoted at 14 and is connected by a pin 30 moving in a slot 32 of a plate 34 to the piston rod 28 of an actuating cylinder 22. When the clamper is closed a gasket 19 on a bearing surface 18 thereof cooperates with a seating surface 20 in the duct. Screwed rods 46 projecting out of the duct carry spiral arms 52 at their inner ends which arms each cooperate with an inclined-surface plate adjacent the periphery of the damper. On turning the rods the arms 52 engage the inclined surfaces to force the seal 19 tightly into engagement with the seating surface 20.
