Abstract

1385736 Table underframes KARTELL SpA 14 Sept 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 42775/72 Heading A4H [Also in Division F2] A disassemblable support structure for a table top etc. comprises a rectangular frame and four corner legs, the structure being of tubular section and formed from four separate parts 1-4, Fig. 1 each part having a pair of horizontal perpendicular arms 5, 6 to provide the frame and a leg 7 and being formed from an external and an internal half-shell 11, 12, Figs. 8, 9 the adjacent arms 5, 6 of the parts 1-4 being connected by tenon joints 25. Half-shell 11 has parallel lower flanges 13, 14, an upper flange 18, and C-shaped part 19, Fig. 2 co-operating respectively with lower flanges 15, 15', parallel upper flanges 16, 17 of the halfshell 12, and tongue 20. The C-shaped part and tongue form a seat 10 for the table top. The seat between flanges 13, 14 has extensions 21 Fig. 6 (not shown) engaging recesses along flanges 15, 15', and all the flanges may be glued. The tenon joint may comprise a separate tenon 25 having top and bottom recesses (26), Fig. 7 (not shown) at one end that co-operate with selected projections 30 in the arm 6 of one of the parts, and lateral opening (27) at its other end containing a threaded insert 28 that receives a screw 29 in arm 5 of the other adjacent part. Alternatively, the tenon (25'), Fig. 10 (not shown) may be integral with the shells of the arms 6. The parts are of moulded plastics.
