Abstract

1384811 Maleic acid imide preparation HOECHST AG 7 Jan 1972 [7 Jan 1971] 908/72 Heading C2C N-substituted maleic acid imides of formula or salts thereof wherein X represents a divalent organic radical (2-10 C) and Y represents a substituted non-aromatic amino group bonded through the amino nitrogen to X, are prepared by heating a compound at a temperature 50‹C. above or below the M.P. of the compound II under vacuum to distil off compound I and if required forming a salt thereof. Preferably X may be -(X 1 ) m -(X 2 ) n - (X 3 ) p - in which X 1 X 2 X 3 represent an alkylene or carboxylic radical and m, n and p represent 0 or 1, especially -(X 4 ) a -(X 5 ) r -(X 6 ) s - in which X 4 and X 6 may be an alkylene group, and X 5 a carbocyclie group and q, r and s may be 0 or 1, and preferably Y represents a group of formula in which R 1 and R 2 represent an alkyl (1-4 C) or R 1 and R 2 with the N form a 3-6 membered ring. Examples describe the preparation of N- (2-diethylamino-ethyl), N-(3-diethylamino-propyl), and N-(4-diethylamino-cyclohexyl) maleic acid imides, the iodide of N-[2-N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-diethyl- N<SP>1</SP>-methyl) ammonium ethyl]-maleic acid imide and the methosulphate of N-[2-N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-diethyl- N<SP>1</SP>-methyl)ammonium-ethyl] maleic acid.
