Abstract
1384853 Mould provided with a ventilation valve F HODLER 20 June 1973 [5 Oct 1972] 29373/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division F2] A mould having a ventilation duct 4, 18, 14 is provided with a valve for closing the duct, the valve comprising a piston 5 urged into its open position by a displacement member when the mould is open, and means 8 actuated by closure of the mould to move the displacement member away from the piston 5 so that the piston can be brought to its closed position without being hindered by the displacement member load, the arrangement being such that the piston moves to its closed position in the direction of the pressure exerted on it by the casting material. The piston 5 is urged towards its open position by a spring 10 which bears against a displacement member 9 which in turn bears against a plate 12 attached to the piston. When the mould is closed rods 8, which pass through the plate 12, are moved to the right and push the member 9 away from the plate 12 against the action of the spring 10. The piston 5 remains in its open position until a pressure medium is admitted to the space 23 to move the plate 12 and thus piston 5 to the right until the plate 12 again bears against the member 9. In this position the piston head 6 is located within the bore 17 and blocks the connection between the parts 4 and 14 of the ventilation duct. The shape of the piston head 6 is such that the pressure of the casting material causes the periphery of the head to be pressed against the wall of the bore 17. Two valves may be provided, one in each half of the mould.
