Abstract
1384134 Desulphurization of iron POLYSIUS AG 7 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 41510/72 Heading C7D Liquid iron e.g. pig iron or cast iron is desulphurized by blowing in a mixture of a Ca compound, preferably CaO, and a liquid hydrocarbon, e.g. heating oil or diesel oil, suspended in a carrier gas, e.g. compressed air or CO. In the figure, fine lime 8 is added to the gas stream at 6, and the hydrocarbon 13 is added through nozzle 9 just before entry into the molten iron 2 through lance 4.
