Abstract

1383914 Continuous casting FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971 18 Feb 1972] 47506/71 and 7702/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division F4] In continuous casting from a ladle or tundish with one or more pouring nozzles, the or each nozzle is plugged with an exothermic composition which is ignited in contact with molten metal and burnt so that when a certain metallostatic pressure is reached it collapses allowing passage of molten metal through the nozzle or nozzles. If, towards the end of a casting cycle, the metal tends to solidify in a nozzle the exothermic composition may be introduced at this stage.
