Abstract

1383761 Aerosol inhaler D C WOODCRAFT (Armstrong - Kropp Development Corp) 25 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 5450/71 Heading AST [Also in Division F1] An inhaler 21 is for use with an aerosol container 43. which discharges a metered amount of medicament when its nozzle 49 is pressed, which is arranged to occur when suction is applied to the inhaler 21, and comprises a chamber 38, a mouthpiece 32 communicating with the chamber 38, a spring- biased lever 63 for actuating the aerosol, a linking lever 62 which acts as a latch to maintain the actuating lever 63 in a cocked position, and a movable wall 61 which, in the cooked position, covers air admission ports 41 and which, when suction is applied to the mouthpiece 32, moves away from the ports 41 to unlatch the linking lever 62, as in Fig. 1 (not shown). The wall 61 is pivoted at 65. Linking lever 62 is pivoted at 67 and has a rounded portion 73 which contacts the side of spring 64, thereby biasing the upper end of lever 62 against the wall 61. The other end of lever 62 forms the latdh 72 which cooperates with a notch 83 in the actuating lever 63. The actuating lever 63 is pivoted at 76 and also includes a strap 74, which passes through a slot 84 in the bottom of the chamber 38 and is used to reset the actuating lever 63. The strap 74 has a portion 75 which covers the mouthpiece 32 when the inhaler is not in use. The aerosol container 43 is mounted in a second chamber 37 having a pivoted cover 54. In a second embodiment, Figs. 6-13 (not shown), a separate spring (107) biases the linking lever 62 against the wall 61. A single round aperture (101) forms the air admission port, which is overlaid by a button (102) on the face of the wall 61, to enable the inhaler to be triggered manually. An additional air admission port (121), normally overlaid by a foam pad (122) mounted on the lever 63, is provided. A sliding cover (125) includes a wedge (129) movable relative thereto to press against the top of the aerosol container 43.
