Abstract
1383179 Magnetic fastenings E A J TUNNICLIFFE 20 Aug 1973 [19 Aug 1972] 38766/ 72 Heading E2A [Also in Division H1] A vertical sheet holding device e.g. for X- ray films comprises a metal casing 10 and illuminated translucent panel 11 to which nuts and bolts 14 secure a flanged support member 15 of sheet steel, aluminium, or synthetic resin with a channel section 17 defining an inwardly directed trough having two limbs 19, 18 defining a slot 20 (Figs. 2 and 3). A flat steel back member 21, held between the support member and the casing is bent to retain the panel 11, and a strip shaped retaining member 22 of semiflexible permanently magneticed barium berrite admixed with thermoplastic resin is located over the back member to retain a non-magnetic angle member 23 of e.g. synthetic resin or phosbronze, copper or aluminium with the lower limb bent away from panel 11. The retaining member is magnetised perpendicularly to its longitudinal flat faces. A margin of an X-ray film 25 is insertable between the bent portions of members 21, 23 to force them apart against the magnetic force therebetween, so that the film is gripped, and is easily removable by tension. Alternatively the angle member 23 is replaceable by a non- magnetic covering applied to the inner face of retaining member 22, and may have. a bent or chamfered lower edge to facilitate entry of the film. Plural such holding devices may be positioned end to end along the upper edge of the casing.
