Abstract

1383013 Sterilizing packaged articles PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60347/71 Heading A5G A wrapped, sterilized article is produced by sealing the article into a gas-permeable, bacteria-impervious package and simultaneously entrapping in the package a quantity of gaseous or volatile sterilant so that the sterilant (e.g. ethylene oxide) immediately contacts the article and the interior surface of the package, and placing the package in a well-ventilated area until sufficient sterilant has permeated the package and has been removed to leave a safe concentration thereof within the package. The sterilant can be introduced during manufacture, e.g. by performing the sealing operations in an atmosphere thereof.
