Abstract

1383005 Emulsion with sequence polymer emulsifier L'OREAL 5 Oct 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 45983/72 Addition to 1324745 Heading B1V [Also in Divisions A5 and C3] Water-in-oil or oil-in-water emulsions comprise as emulsifier at least one polymer which contains at least one lipophilic sequence having recurring units of formula: and at least one hydrophilic sequence having recurring units of formula: the sequence polymer being generally as defined in Specification 1324745 but with the group -COOC 4 H 9 in the lipophilic sequence as above in place of the group -R as in that Specification. Preferred proportions are between 5 and 20% by weight emulsifier, between 20 and 65% by weight oil phase, between 20 and 75% by weight water. The oil phase may comprise at least one hydrocarbon, vegetable or animal oil or at least one saturated ester. The emulsion may be made by mixing the polymer with the "oil" at about 150‹C, adding the "water" previously heated to about 80‹C with stirring and cooling with stirring.
