Abstract

1382908 Shearing MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 24 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971] 8600/72 Heading B3W A plate shears comprises a frame 10, upper and lower cutters 3, 4 mounted for relative vertical movement in carriers 1, 5, means for adjusting the horizontal cutting gap and an overload protection device including a support element 7 supporting or embodying one of the cutter carriers and connected to the frame 10 through means 12 which fractures if an excessive horizontal force occurs in the gap to permit the support element 7 to yield relative to the frame 10. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the horizontal cutting gap between a lower cutter 4 and an upper cutter 3 mounted in a displaceable carrier 1 is adjustable by at least two wedges 6, each supported on a member 7 pivoted at 8 to the shears frame 10. The lower end of the member 7 is secured to blocks (14, 15) (Fig. 2, not shown), connected to the frame 10, by means of shear pins 12, (13), which fracture when an overload occurs allowing the member 7 to swing towards the frame 10. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the lower cutter carrier 20 is connected to the frame 27 by bolts 25, 26 secured at one of their ends to the frame 27 and carrying nuts 30, 31 at their other ends. When an overload occurs, the nuts 30, 31 fracture at points (31c) (Fig. 4, not shown) allowing the carrier 20 to pivot about a shaft 32 away from the frame 27.
