Abstract

1382717 Making explosives ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 31 July 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 35635/72 Heading C1D [Also in Divisions E1] An apparatus for delivering an explosive slurry for underground working comprises a bulk tank 1, a primary pump 3 which delivers slurry to a secondary unit 4 via a hose 5 over fifty foot in length, and a tank 6 for an additive viscosity raising and/or sensitizing agent; the slurry being pumped from the secondary unit to a borehole and additive from tank 6 being added to it at or after the secondary unit. In the embodiment shown the secondary unit 4 comprises a slurry hopper 13 having a level control 12 which controls the pneumatically powered primary pump 3 by acting on air delivery valve 11, and separate slurry and additive pumps 14, 7 which are remote-controlled from the borehole. Slurry and additive pass in separate lines 10, 9, to an inline interfacial surface generator mixer 8. The unit 4 is designed to be dismantled into portable sections and readily re-assembled in a restricted space. A detonation trap is preferably provided between the bulk tank 1 and the unit 4.
