Abstract
1382799 Purifying gases SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 1 Feb 1972 [3 Feb 1971] 4663/72 Heading B1F Apparatus for the treatment of gases containing undesirable compounds in addition to solid matter by contacting them with a gas treatment solid comprises at least two gas treating spaces of substantially the same size and shape provided within one or more columns, gas inlets to said spaces and gas outlets therefrom, and means for directing a gas to be treated alternately through each said space, each said space being provided with a plurality of containers for a gas treatment solid, which containers are so constructed of gas permeable material that they contain a system of substantially parallel gas channels and chambers for said solid, the boundaries of the gas channels being formed, at least substantially, by the walls of the adjacent chambers, which containers are so placed in said spaces that when during operation the chambers are charged with said solid, the gases to be treated will flow through the gas channels thereof. A container is exemplified in Fig. 7 in which a folded gauze 45 has inserts 49 and 50 and contains treatment solid to form alternate empty and treatment channels. The treatment of flue gas to remove sulphur oxides using metal and/or metal compound accepters of copper or banadium is referred to.
