Abstract

1382497 Latch fastenings; window opening devices P E E J BOGAERT 22 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 29390/72 Headings E2A and E2M A skylight assembly includes two frames 2, 3 and a latch mechanism which serves to hold the frames together against biassing means which act to tend to move one of the frames to an open position, the latch mechanism including at least one pivotable latch 8 on one of the frames and which is biassed under tension to holdingly engage an abutment 7 on the other frame to hold the frames together, which latch can be released to permit the skylight assembly to open. As shown, two latches 8, 8' are provided and a tension spring 9 is secured to the latch 8 and a floating pulley 11, a cable 10 passing around the pulley being secured to the latch 8' and to a pivotable lever 12 held in a skylight "closed" position by an electromagnet 14; when the latter is de-energised the tension in the spring and cable is released to permit the biassing means to open the skylight. The frame 3 is pivoted to a fixed frame 1 and is openable to a limited extent by an electric motor 4 the shaft 4' of which is screwed at the point of its passage through a member 5 so that rotation of the shaft causes the frame 3 to pivot towards or away from the frame 1. To provide for automatic separation of the frames 2, 3 a fusible element is located in the tensioning assembly for the latches.
