1382136 Winding webs CUCKSON-SCOVILL PTY Ltd 17 July 1972 33420/72 Heading B8R A tape winding apparatus for winding lengths of tape 11, Fig. 1, measured by a digital counter 74 associated with a feed roller 75 which is followed by a guide 13 comprises a rotary head assembly 8 journalled on a plate 7 by rollers 33 and indexable by a gear 36 meshing with teeth 35 to present alternately two winding spindles 29, Fig. 3, at a winding station 9 and a priming and discharge station 10, the winding spindles 29 being driven at the station 9 by a separate drive formed by a belt (42, Fig. 6) and rollers (52) mounted on a solenoid displaced lever (50). The spindles are also indexable during indexing of the assembly 8 so that the slots 30 at the ends of the spindles are aligned to receive the tape portion 11C. Following reception of the tape portion 11C the spindle 29 at the station 9 is driven by a motor (86, Fig. 6) until it is stopped by the counter 74. The assembly 8 is then indexed through 180 degrees to present the spindle 29 with the wound tape at the station 10 at which the tape is primed by a solenoid 34 actuated priming device 15, cut by a solenoid 16 actuated cutter 14 and the spindles retracted to allow the tape roll 118 at the station 10 to drop into a discharge receptacle (not shown). Following indexing of the head assembly and retraction of the spindles 29 a slide 57 carrying rotary and stationary discs 59, 61 is moved towards the spindles to act as tape roll forming flanges. The cycle of the machine, actuation of the tape winding belt (41) and the displacement of spindles as well as actuation of the priming and cutting devices 15, 14, is controlled by a timer 20 to 26 and solenoids.
