Abstract
1382120 Plasticizing compositions ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 9 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 6046/72 Heading C3P A solid composition comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a major proportion by weight of a liquid plasticizer the composition being in particulate form prepared by cooling a hot monogeneous blend of the components. Plasticized polymer compositions are prepared by blending an appropriate amount of this solid plasticizer composition with the polymer. It may be formed in granules or pellets or powder and the particles may be coated to prevent agglomeration on storage. In examples, the polymer used was polyvinyl chloride or a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer and plasticizers included di-isooctyl phthalate, diisooctyl adipate, and chlorinated paraffin wax. A mixture of organic compounds of barium, cadmium and zinc and a phosphite chelating agent was added as a stabilizer and the composition was formed into pellets coated with polyvinyl chloride powder, talc, calcined kaolin or calcium carbonate. Polyvinyl chloride compositions were prepared by mixing polyvinyl chloride with a plasticizer composition and optionally with a pigment mixed with further plasticizer.
