1382144 Centrifuge R STEIMEL 6 March 1972 [11 March 1971] 10269/72 Heading B1D [Also in Division F4] The floor 1 of centrifuge drum may be raised vertically from a discharge position (as shown at the right-hand side of the Figure) to engage with and lift the shell 2 of the drum off a support ring 31 (as shown at the left-hand side of the Figure) so that the drum can be rotated by a hydraulic motor 4 attached by its shaft 3 to the floor 1, the motor 4 being secured to a support plate 43 axially guided in a housing 5 to which is secured a cylinder 7 resiliently supported by a rubber bush 11 for lateral movement. The floor 1 is raised by supplying pressure medium at 46 to the journal 7 to force upwards a piston 44 secured to the plate 43. Centrifugal liquid passes through a perforated screen 19 and openings between flanges 15 and 17 into a trough 21 from which it is discharged by a pipe 22. After centrifuging, the batch of material or articles are discharged (by lowering of the floor 1) into a hopper 33 having a floor 35 sloping towards a discharge opening 34, the hopper 33 being secured to the housing 5 and having baffles 36, 37. The next batch is loaded into a supply hopper 38 while the previous batch is being centrifuged; when the floor is raised again after discharging, the closure 40 is raised by supplying pressure fluid to a cylinder 41 to deliver the batch uniformly to the slowly rotating drum.
