Abstract

1381861 Reel supports T J KENNY and J S URBANOWSKI 27 March 1972 [7 Jan 1971] 771/71 Heading B8M Apparatus for rotatably supporting drums or coils of cable, rope or wire or material in strip form comprises a drum or coil supporting frame structure A having a centre post or pivot B for contacting the ground and about or on which the frame A rotates, and a plurality of freely rotatable ground wheels or rollers arranged about the pivot post B to support the frame during its rotational movement, and is characterized in that the pivot post B comprises a freely rotatable foot component and is adjustable relative to the frame structure A whereby it may be retracted so as to have the structure supported entirely on its ground wheels and thus free to move thereon. The centre post B is preferably screw-threaded at 12 and engages a screwthreaded bush 10 located at the centre of the structure A. The top of the post B is provided with a faceted head 13 to enable turning of the post B to effect vertical movement of the post B. The base of the post B is provided with a groundengaging foot C incorporating a pivot bearing, e.g. a ball bearing 17, which seats in a recess in the end of the post B. The pivot bearing may be lubricated via channel 19 in the foot C. The frame structure A also carries a plurality of upstanding posts which are radially adjustable and about which a coil is supported. Each upstanding post is provided with an aperture near its top end whereby a horizontal shaft may be positioned between two such upstanding posts to rotatably support a drum with its axis horizontal. A carrying bar may also be positioned between two adjacent radially extending members of the frame structure A.
