1381730 4,4<SP>1</SP>-Dinitrostilbene-2,2<SP>1</SP>-disulphonic acid CLAYTON ANILINE CO Ltd 15 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 55838/71 Heading C2C 4,41-Dinitrostilbene-2,2<SP>1</SP>-disulphonic acid is obtained by treating 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulphonic acid with liquid or gaseous halogen under alkaline conditions at a temperature below the boiling point of the reaction mixture, preferably at 80 to 90‹ C. The process may be carried out continuously. Examples are given which illustrate the process.
